PHEONIX DANCE COMPANY MAKES HISTORY AT THE WORLD SALSA CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009!!!

For the first time ever a team from China was represented at the World Salsa Championships this past December 2009 held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida USA. Yes Phoenix Dance Company made history by being the first team to represent China in the World Salsa Championships. It was truly history in the making!

The World Salsa Championships is the largest and most recognized Salsa competition in the World. This year more than four hundred dancers from forty plus countries competed in the competition. The competition is broken into four categories including on “1”, on “2”, Cabaret, and Team. This year six dancers represented China in the World Salsa Championships. All these dancers come from Phoenix Dance Company & Studio. The dancers include Yang Zhen & Wang Xiao Yan that competed in the On “2” division. Sergey Kabankov & Polina Noskova that competed in the Cabaret division. Yang Zhen, Wang Xiao Yan, Serge, Polina, Lai Jing Jing , and Jack Dunn (a.k.a. “Mambo” Jack) represented Phoenix Dance Company in the Team division.

Yang Zhen and Wang Xiao Yan were the first to compete in the competition. The On “2” division had 21 couples competing. Yang Zhen and Xiao Yan did a fantastic job, and the audience really loved there energetic, and unique performance.

Serge & Polina competed next in the Cabaret division. There performance was stunning, and Serge & Polina left the dance floor as an audience and judges favorite. Serge & Polina are the first couple ever representing China to make it to the final round of the competition. They did a remarkable job, and placed 7th in the World at the World Salsa Championships.

The teams division by far was the most competitive division at the World Salsa Championships this year. Twenty-three teams competed in the World Salsa Championships. Since this was the first year that a team from China was represented not a lot was expected, but that changed after the first round. Phoenix Dance performed a flawless and energetic routine that ranked them 7th at the end of the first round. The audience, judges, and the team were amazed at making the finals. Phoenix Dance performed strong in the finals to leave them placing 8th in the World. What an amazing accomplishment for the first team to ever compete in the World Salsa Championships. Why is salsa so addictive?

Salsa dancing is a lot of fun, and you meet a LOT of great people, but the music..... The rhythms in salsa music are originally from Africa. The very powerful drum-rhythms were originally used for religious purposes. Mambo is a African word that means to call for the Gods... Anybody who dance salsa understand the power in these rhythms - it is impossible to not move!

Salsa, the hot and sexy Latin dance, is currently the most popular club/social dance in the world
